ABOUT THE WORK ![]() My work is based in abstraction. The imagery is minimal and is informed by deep space, the landscape, agricultural patterns, man made markings and natural patterns. An important aspect of the work is process, including construction and deconstruction, adding and taking away, composing and decomposing, removing to reveal, adding to obscure. These of course, are all processes found in nature and are a natural consequence of the encaustic process which is ideal for this type of exploration. This work like most creative exploration comes from internal, mysterious and compelling notions that seek to externalize themselves through the work. Comments on the "Reductive Abstraction Series" I live in the high desert of the great basin in the West. This land has always influenced my work in some way. The contrast between the deep space of the western sky and the large open expanse of the terrain seems to always make its way into the work. I try to strike a balance between the formal organization of the work and the incredible luscious and lumanescent surfaces that the encaustic process produces. I avoid intellectual, literal and narrative interpertations and attempt to eliminate everything that is not essential with the intention of moving the work toward it's essence.
